<image:caption>Penelope Project's mission is to provide support and education to help alleviate stress of NICU families. Our Promise Let us teach you to be a NICU expert and support you when you feel alone. Your search is over You've found your village. Our Story Penelope Project is a non-profit dedicated to those families whose babies come way before their due dates and luckily end up in an amazing NICU. We were one of those families. On December 23, 2017 we were blessed with our little angel, Penelope Marie, born at 28 weeks and not even weighing two pounds. She was nicknamed Pistol Penny, by her Mary Washington NICU nurses, as she fought for 53 days before finally coming home. Almost two years later, she is thriving in every sense and we are eternally grateful for all the care and support we received along the way.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Team - Kristyn is a first-time mom to Jorryn who was born at 27 weeks. Even though Jorryn was early, Kristyn expected her to be double the size she was - over 2 pounds. But because of a few pregnancy complications, Jorryn only weighed 1 pound and 2 ounces and remained on oxygen during her 96 day NICU stay and for 7 months after coming home.</image:title>
<image:caption>For nearly 2 years, Kristyn searched for a community that was just right, a group of parents who would truly understand what she and her husband had been through. Before Penelope Project, she found solace in prayer, family, friends and writing. With Penelope Project, she was also able to find and offer specific support that NICU parents need. She found her village. Kristyn, a Virginian, loves history, music, and good television. As a writer and high school teacher, she appreciates and promotes perspective. Kristyn strives to take the advice she gives her students upon graduation. Live life. Don't just think outside the box, but take time to LIVE outside it. She encourages parents of NICU babies to do the same. If you'd like to reach out to Kristyn directly, please contact her at info@penelopeproject.org.</image:caption>

We started Baby Beginnings because of the families and babies that we help take care of in the NICU. These families and babies are they strongest humans we know!! We saw how stressed and overwhelmed the families were when their baby was ready to come home from the NICU, and wanted to be there for them to help support, encourage, and guide them. Baby Beginnings, LLC offers a NICU Discharge Class for this purpose--think of it as bringing your NICU nurse home with you!</image:caption>

Our founder, Brittany Schiavone, is a creative, sassy, and fabulous woman who happens to have Down syndrome. With Brittany at the helm, we’re on a mission to spread resources, hope, and love by sending “baskets of hope” to families that have recently welcomed a new baby with Down syndrome. When parents get the news that their little one will be born with Down syndrome, they often hear, “I’m sorry.” We’re not sorry! We say, “Congratulations!” Since delivering our first basket of hope in October 2016, we’ve now sent over 1,100 baskets of hope to families in all 50 states, including many to families whose journeys began in the NICU.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Online Reources - Preemie World</image:title>
<image:caption>Support for preemies at every stage Parents of premature infants are often caught unprepared by early birth, and can quickly become overwhelmed by their new child’s needs and the unfamiliar world of the NICU. These moms and dads are thrust into a high-stress, high-stakes situation where they are expected to make decisions for their child based on medical information they have no prior exposure to. We understand the singular and often difficult position parents of premature children find themselves in after experiencing early birth. Neonatal professionals don’t always have enough time to seek out resources to learn how to relay sensitive subjects to parents. We provide that coaching to the dedicated men and women of the NICU. We also strive to celebrate those who give so much of their time to fight the effects of premature birth. Our mission is to build a bridge between the parenting and professional worlds that surround premature infants.</image:caption>

<image:caption>After spending almost 9 months in the NICU with our daughter who was born at 26 weeks, we felt that there was a need for a daily tracking journal for the NICU. No NICU journey is the same. There is so much information thrown at you all the time and things are changing daily. We created the journal we wished we would have had during our time there. It is a place where you can easily track important information and keep it all in one place. It also serves as a keepsake of your babies time in the NICU.- Whitney Davis</image:caption>

      <image:title>Shops - EARLY ARRIVALS</image:title>
<image:caption>Early Arrivals began when dear friends went into early labor and their babies came 4 months earlier than expected. I got my sewing machine out & got to work. I wanted them to be able to have size appropriate garments instead of newborn clothes that wouldn’t fit for quite some time. A small gesture that grew into the idea for cute, size-appropriate, NICU-friendly clothing & accessories for Micros & Preemies.</image:caption>
